As seen above, a supposidly “official” Black Ops 3 image surfaced yesterday, courtesy of Twitter user @ThaTiemsz, that features a heavily armored soldier mimicking the pose used on the original Black Ops cover in front of the new Black Ops III logo.

Both Activision & Treyarch didn’t say much about Black Ops 3 yesterday, beside from confirming the fact that it will be the next game in the Call of Duty franchise. Activision did say that some “new intel” might be released before the full reveal coming April 26, & apparently they were not kidding: Inside the source code for the Call of Duty website contains a description of the game, which says it will take place in a “dark, twisted future.”

The Sauce:

“Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is the first title for next-gen hardware in the critically acclaimed Black Ops series. Developed by Treyarch, the award-winning creator of the two most-played games in Call of Duty history. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 deploys players into a dark, twisted future where a new breed of Black Ops soldier emerges & the lines are blurred between our own humanity & the technology we created to stay ahead, in a world where cutting-edge military robotics define warfare. With three unique game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer & Zombies, providing fans with the deepest and most ambitious Call of Duty ever.”

And as noted by Polygon, recent posts to the Treyarch Facebook page have covered topics including “biohacking,” implantable technology, & laser weaponry, all relevant to the sort of future that Black Ops 3 appears set to present.
